Cambelt changers - a favour please!
« on: 23 October 2008, 15:14:32 »

Hi Guys

If any of you do a DIY cambelt change, please don't throw away the tensioner backplate. I am wanting to collect a little pile of them. Handy when manufacturers send me the wrong backplate! :y

Cheers
James

Think I might be a little concerned if in the first place place you were sent the wrong cam belts and secondly haviing then to use second hand parts. :-/

The backplate doesn't wear as it has no moving parts AFAIK.

If you end up with a stripped down engine that you need to get running, it is a very useful fallback....

It's rare it would happen because I have at least 5 of each types of kit in stock, and take two kits if I go to do a job!

As far as "second hand" parts are concerned, a backplate is just that, a backplate - nothing to wear on a peice of metal, when new tensioners are mounted on it...

Correct.

I re-used my backplate, when I did my Elite cambelt kit change.

As long as the threads on the bolts are OK, it's not an issue whatsoever...

He could stack them in the bath instead, cos I bet he hasn't fixed the overflow yet. ;)
