Having had a Volvo XC70 T5 I can say that they're fast, comfortable and well appointed - however - they're too sophisticated for their own good and the likelihood of spending more than you intended for parts and servicing is worthy of consideration.

I would consider the Mondeo TDCI from around '05 onwards, if you don't mind front drive of course.
Yes the Mondeo is a possibility but not the Volvo - too small
Anyone have knowledge of the Citroen C5 Estate??

The current and previous Mundano are decent cars, slightly less load carrying than Omega, but still generous.  The TDCi isn't a bad engine, but suffers like many, with being overly peaky.  This may cause an auto to be less than ideal (not driven a modern Mundano auto)

How about stuffing all the gear in a trailer and hitching that to whatever takes your fancy ?

I would but my drive is quite a steep slope & the lane is only wide enough for the Traktor so backing into the drive is virtually impossible. Tried it years ago with my Auto Mazda 626 & ended up having to unhitch it and manually haul it with the aid of a few neighbours

Why can't you have an MPV, space, comfort, economical and reliable, how can you argue with that, well, may be a bit boring......... :D :D :D
SWMBO will not allow it 'does not want a van with windows' parked on the drive
I had 2 Volvos V70s before the Omega & they have a smaller carrying capacity so they are ruled out

I'm looking at a honda CRV. Doesn't look like a van at all and is very practical.

Won't have the load capacity of an Omega though!
