put politics aside Zulu - you're a decent, intelligent, compassionate person in my view...now - doesn't it grate just a little that these landed gentry who've never had to work a day in their lives if they didn't want to have the temerity to take money off someone who gets a few quid a week on benefits (so what if some are cheating - the amount they steal wouldn't make a dent in what we gave to the banks)? pay freezes for civil servants?

that doesn't grate - just a little? you think any of these old etonians have worried about a bill dropping through the letter box?

you're a decent, intelligent, compassionate person in my view.

....are you hitting on me bj :o I have to tell you I don't put out on a first date :-* :-*

doesn't it grate just a little that these landed gentry who've never had to work a day in their lives if they didn't want to have the temerity to take money off someone who gets a few quid a week on benefits

...it doesn't grate on me at all bj and I don't think the need to address the confused and unbalanced welfare system can be described as an elitist Etonian plot to deny those in need the assistance they require.

so what if some are cheating - the amount they steal wouldn't make a dent in what we gave to the banks

...so theft and sharp practice are fine as long as they both are done by a certain demographic? – that’s quite a double standard there:-/ :-/

you think any of these old etonians have worried about a bill dropping through the letter box?

...if you're referring to the Tory front bench they probably don't have to - they're on a parliamentary salary (and expenses ) after all ;) ;)

i'm not saying its fine and nothing should be done - i'm saying there are far bigger frauds in the city than some guy scamming a few extra thousand - but it is an easy target something DC has never shied away from.....

incidentally i watched the entertaining "when dave met boris" last night on more4, as well as dramatising certain events at Eton and Oxford it interviewed friends, family and classmates for insight - very enlightening - worth catching it if you can......i had no idea boris and dave were such rivals - might be interesting  :y

All this fuss and fighting, I don't really do politics and certainly not a local level, in that  vote on policies and evidence.

I am simply waiting for GB to be replaced then we can all watch as Labour get reelected, after all there is no one else up to the Job. And I speak as a past conservative voter.
I have noticed that even the tory's are going to hit the working man for the worlds financial difficulties caused by the bankers, none of whom are going to be worrying about how to pay for Christmas. GB did not cause the recession.
And no, I am not one of those left wing lentil munchers of the PC brigade, we hear described on here, which incidentally, went down brilliantly in the office... :y :y

Just a few thoughts. ::) ::)

Whoever forms the next administration - and I'm sceptical about DC's ability to be a true force for realistic change - the political reality will demand some extraordinary measures to address the current malaise, and by extension, cause discomfort to us all.

Should that strength and desire be absent in the new administration then this country is finished.

Boris enjoys being considered a buffoon – he is far from it - only those who base their judgement upon these superficial facets will fail to see the true depth and clarity contained within this apparently flawed diamond.

i think i said earlier that i respect boris for not being afraid to be posh - he is fiercely intelligent to such an extent that apparently he rarely prepares anything as he knows he'll muddle through and it seems to work for him, this may give opponents cause for alarm and point out his failings, but his charm and humour rarely fail to win over an audience :y

BJ for PM?  ;D ;D

"intellectual colossus"

......I'm sure that Mr Johnson will be gratified to have such a generous admirer ;) ;)

....you shouldn't keep denigrating yourself like this Optio as it seems responsible for your failing to read the man with any degree of objectivity :-/ :-/

Sorry Vamps but this simply isnt true.many tens of thousands of people in the banking industry were the first to lose their jobs when the meltdown started.Therse werent multi millionare masters of the universe (they do ok whatever happens) but people on 5 figure salaries who had nothing to do with the policies and decisions which helped crate the problem.
The architect of banking regulations which were a very large contributory factor in the problems was a certain G Brown. He was so desperate to be the 1st Liebore chancellor to ingratiate himself with the City that he tore up the rule book when he became Chancellor, and even when he was advised that this waas storing up trouble for the future he wouldnt listen. He told us all that he had dispensed with boom and bust,he had created the land of milk and honey and no-one need worrry about anything ever again.
I would like to see him strung up on a lampost on Threadneedle street for what he did to the economy of this country. >:(
