New laptop for father in law

spotted this on offer, looks ok for the money

gonna be a general pc for my father in law for surfing, typing, no games etc...

HP G61-110sa 15.6" widescreen laptop

worth finding out what motherboard is in it, often Currys and other big high street places go for the display card big numbers.

So big RAM, big CPU, ect, but its all bolted to a crappy motherboard which can't handle it

Thats for sale at that price across DSG.

Looking at it earlier for someone else. Suggested they looked elsewhere:

Pentium. A couple of generations behind current.  Minimum I'd recommend is Core2.  Likely the chipset will be first generation Centrino as well.


4Gb memory. Why? Shows the marketeers have got hold of it. Idiots.

Found another HP for around £50 more that was Core2 and 965 chipset (thus x3100 vga).

Whats his eyesight like, just thinking a 15" is one thing but a 15.6" wide screen might strain his eyes depending on res used.
