Fridge - temp too high
« on: 09 January 2011, 09:26:09 »

We have an old fridge, well, its 12 years and a Neff. The temp seems too warm on the coldest setting and its gradually been getting worse over the years - i.e. having to turn the down "down" to maintain a useful temp.

Its a built in single fridge with no freezer section if that helps.

Any fridge experts have any ideas?

Thanks - Rob

maybe the fan at the back has clogged up with dust over the yrs and not drawing enough air in to cool it, just a thought. or maybe its passed its sell by date now.

It could be a number of reasons causing it to run to warm. Check the obvious "cheap fix" things first such as door seals closing properly, the compressor and condenser should be clean and free from dust etc. If it needs professional attention i.e re- gassing or a new stat, it may be more cost effective to replace it with a new one. If you can find a fridge repair person to have a look and give you a free estimate with no call out charge you can then make your mind up which way to go.

Assuming its been fitted correctly.....with air vents fitted to allow air flow at the back of it...it sounds like the thermostat is failing. Quite an easy check.....does the compressor run all the time? If not, thermostat problem and probably easy to change.

Yah, sounds like the classis slow failure of the stat.

Easy enough to get replacement ones and fitting is not to hard.

It should be said that 12 years is quite a short life for a fridge but, I guess it is a Naff (form over function lol)
