Colour television really helped to popularise this sport.

thanks Den - I'm surprised how quick Joe Davis was around the table - he didn't hang about did he?  :o

I once had the pleasure of seeing Joe Davis live in an exhibition match against Rex Williams.

Joe was well in his sixties, he made a 508 break at billiards, and 3 century breaks in a best of 5 at snooker, this was on an ordinary working mens club table with the old heavy snooker balls, not a specially honed match table that they play on today with the new lightweight balls.
