it is web enabled has bluetooth and a whole lot more besides, however i recently bought a usb lead to plug into it to download some pctures that have been on there years, but here is the problem, when plugged into the laptop it just says

imo you must have some driver software that came with phone for the op.system to read it properly.. :-/

old models require that..

agreed,as Cem says it needs software before the pc will recognise it,if you get the model number you can download the software from nokia's site for free :y

casting my mind back....in one of the phones connectivity settings....you have options of mass storage (or words to that effect)  or pc suite mode.

you want the option that ISNT pc suite, and it should then see it as a removable drive, and your photos will be findable  :y

In a phone I have here....

Settings
Connectivity
USB
can then choose Pc suite / Mass storage / image transfer / media transfer.

I would go for mass storage as everything should then be accessible.

using that you 'shouldnt' need any other software.
Try and avoid pc suite or ovi suite, very bloated pc slowing apps.

I just plug my old Nokia into any PC via the USB and the phone comes up with 'Use phone as Data storage device'. I press 'accept' and then view the photo's by going to 'My Computor' on the laptop and it shows my phone as a removable device. It's a quicker way than syncing with Nokia PC Suite if you want to use any PC. The photo's have to be on the memory card to do this though.  :y :y

What he said^

Pc suite, drivers, and the correct cable.

Or email them, or blutooth them to another device. Preferably a blutooth enabled lap top.

As above, you'll need the Windows drivers for your handset in order for it to be recognised correctly.
As you have Bluetooth, why not just BT them to another device?
