will be fired within a month
« on: 01 June 2011, 10:58:14 »

I am probably going to get fired within a month.
Actually not fired they just wont extend my contract.
So much for the gratitude from the employers who had everything done on time every single time.
Man I'm pissed  >:(. After god knows how many unpaid overtime hours, lost weekend and all kinds of s... problems this is how I'm repayed.
Since I was employed on a non permanent contract I get no benefits from the company for loosing a job.
The stupidest thing is that nobody knows my job. Just they have a headcount number that they intend to conform to, and since I'm on contract I am one of the first ones they intend to send away. Other and a bigger reason being that since I am on contract for quite some time they  would be legally obided to give me a permanent employment soon.
Fu....n foreign slave runners.
Dont worry guys I didn't mean on you Britiish.
And sorry for the language

Sorry to hear that. Will you have to move to get alternative work?

Sounds like the same employment laws as in Spain. There was a huge scam recently that cost millions of EU money. The small company took someone on and received a small EU grant then after a year laid them off then waited a while and repeated the process.

Hope you get sorted.

I will have to move probably cause here the work is really scarse (country is in deep s..t at least this part of the country).
Problem is my folks are rather old and their health is not so good anymore so from time to time they do need my help.
And by the way my wife lives in a neighbouring country and cannot leave her job cause she has one loan to repay, first I need to find a steady job for her to move.
And hardly no work there where she lives either.
Oh bugger

I'm sorry to hear that, but things may turn out for the best.

I was working on contract up until Dec last year, they had consultants in who said they should save money by getting rid of all contract staff, which meant me  :'( :'( :'(

However they soon found out they couldn't do without me and offered me a full time job at better money.  :y

When doing a contract job, it doesn't hurt to learn as much as you can, but don't tell others. So when they come to replace you they then find out the replacement can't do the job.

All's fair in love and work.

Is'nt this a sad reflection on todays employment methods. Most posts are part time or short contract agency. Very few "REAL JOBS" now as we have very few real trades left & are fast becoming a nation of IT workers with ever decreasing blue collar posts as we can't make it pay.

Sheffield Steel, Avista Polarit. Outo Kompo, Corus, Tata.....more redundancies????

Ship building, railways....What happened to the industries that put the "Great" into Britain?

We are now a nation of offices & retail parks. :'(

I believe our countries are on the same way, deeper down.... Go to your doctor, take your last 30 days off, due to some "imaginary illness" because your employer will pay you minimum for your last month anyway. Try to find new job in that time. If they have this attitude to you, give them back their attitude. I'm working at railway company, wife had same example as you, still no job add two small kids....no need to explain. I even worked in your country 5 years ago (ncp Sibenik), believe me, you'll find better job, just put some effort to it and believe in youself. There is always a way

Yes, I have a few Steadfast screwdrivers I have been using for over 25 years. They were made in Sheffield and are great, almost indestructable.  However the company who made them is no longer, they made them too good, not consumable items that wear out fast.

Re the blue collar jobs.... There are a lot of graduates in engineering who are good at programming etc, but haven't a clue at real engineering, eg noise filtering, how to get analogue and digital working well together, they rely on the PCB designer to make it all work, where in actual fact he hasn't got a clue either. That's where the old timer, ( like me ! ) is pretty useful. If you want to make things work you need experience of how it all works to make it happen.

A recent case, a measuring system used a 12bit A/D converter, worked fine, about 2mV of system noise so the software guys had to drop a couple of bits of resolution cause of the noise level.  A replacement was sought, along came Designer who claimed to understand all this stuff, designed a replacement using a 16bit converter. Now using 16 bits, 1 bit is 60uV (very very small !), and totally swamped by the background noise of 2mV which he didn't improve, so software had to drop even more bits of resolution so no improvement, and they have had to pay an expensive salary for 3 years. Management is not happy.  :'(

However me, with my understanding of noise levels and power distribution will just about save the day, and keep us in business a bit longer.

We have to support our basic industries, we have given away so many, its a crime. Support, nurture, grow like a seed.......

You know what is the stupidest thing in my case.
Nobody in the whole country knows my job except me  :o cause nobody else here uses this software I'm working on.
