DVLA would have recieved a card explaining that they're holding it until the postage difference (or in this case all the postage) is paid

My daughter got one of those instead of a birthday card last Friday ie you owe us £1.06 due to lack of postage (6p under pluss £1 handling). I went to collect it and it was just an ordinary birthday card with a 1st class stamp on it. I asked at the sorting office why it could have been under stamped but as it fitted through their test card they suggested it might have been over weight. Not knowing at the time what the max weight was I didn't then question them. When I got home I went on line to find out that ordinary 1st class allows you to post 100g - my daughter's b'day card was 26g, no where near. When I phoned Royal Mail to complain she immediately belived me & said that they would send satmps to the value of  the over charge.
When I got home from work today I had a book of 6 1st calss stamps waiting for me.
RESULT!  :)

it's a joke how they waste your time in situations like that tho

a woman approached me in the same predicament, having recieved a card saying she owed the same amount for a birthday card, the staff at the post office where she posted from had told the sender the postage amount was fine yet the lady recieved a card through last saturday, i now suspect its the receiving office making the mistakes

It is really annoying since they introduced the new pricing scheme connected to size as well as weight. I have to take everything to get it weighed and measured.
I haven't a clue what is acceptable to have a 1st class stamp, except a standard letter of course. I bet they are making a fortune in their handling fees for underpaid items  >:(

The pricing leaflet is freely available from POs, and is also on the web. No excuse really.
