Bloody Royal Mail, I'm a prat :(
« on: 13 June 2007, 12:55:02 »

Posted a cruise control kit I sold on ebay, for £59, via recorded delivery.

Thought no more of it, until paypal dispute was opened.

They now want tracking info / reciepts etc faxed over, which I shall do now.

Just checked status with royal mail - they have lost my parcel, and it's only insured up to £34 - that'll teach me :( :(

Wonder if I can still blag the case in my favour with Paypal with these reciepts though  ::)

After postage AFAIK it is the responsability of the buyer - was there a registered option?

In the ebay listing, did you state that postage would be first class recorded? If so the buyer could have asked you to upgrade that to special delivery if they paid. They didn't so in contract terms they accepted the method of posting. All you have to do is give paypal the royal mail tracking number, which confirms postage.

How many weeks since you posted the parcel, and have you checked with the delivery office yourself or taken the recipient's word for it being lost?

Hi Fin,

The postage option was listed at "Sellers Standard Rate". Good or bad?

Royal mail confirmed it's lost...

as far as royal mail in general is concerned...  :-X

as far as ebay/paypal, i believe the buyer will end up being refunded, and the seller should claim through royal mail for the missing parcel

i always send by special delivery... always!

i bought a phone from ebay that never arrived, the lady gave me a refund, i never heard about her outcome since

i've heard also of a woman recieving a package 20 years (yes you read me right) after it was originally sent!

why did the buyer open a paypal dispute without contacting you to ask why they hadn't recieved the item?

No, they should not get a refund as the contract ended when you posted the goods by the method accepted by the buyer. Forward details to PayPal.

I have forwarded them copies of all the requested reciepts and proof of postage mate. On this basis, do you think they'll recognise it's in my favour, or may I have to fight??

Paypal offers some insurance to the buyer doesn't it?  I don't know what they might then do to the seller though..

If you don't refund him you've got to expect he will leave some pretty bad feedback comment for you which will cost you in the long term if you sell regularly.   If the Paypal scheme doesn't help maybe a compromise 'split the difference' with him might be the best bet.

Checked the listing - the product itself sold for £49.99

So - if Paypal don't refund him, I was going to claim on royal mail, and give him the £34 compensation as a godwill gesture....

i'm pretty sure paypal will credit in favour of the buyer, leaving the seller to claim through royal mail, as the seller has the proof of postage

Not if, as Fin says - responsibility ends at proof of postage....

DVLA would have recieved a card explaining that they're holding it until the postage difference (or in this case all the postage) is paid
