Spin-on conversion nipple....
« on: 15 September 2010, 12:38:34 »

.....I already did this mod. to the pup-mobile and have been pleased with the outcome. :y

Having seen a recent forum-post concerning the cost of and unavailability of this item; I`m considering machining a small batch of these double-ended threaded nipples for donation to the OOF shop (in aid of OOF funds).

To save my having to change my oil filter just to gauge the thread; does anyone know the thread specs. (dia. and pitch) for the spin-on filter/block-tapping? (I`m assuming it`ll probably be a metric-coarse) ;)

Can't help on the thread spec either, but one thought - is there enough depth between filter face and block face that you can fit a hex section in there? Makes doing them up much easier than just plain threaded (or shouldered) tube.. (The adapter I have on the other car is like that)

Maybe Pinky has one on an old engine he can remove and send over.

My personal opinion is I dont see the point in the change to an inferior filter setup

I think you'll find that this nipple could well be the same as that fitted to my old '96 Astra TD van.
It had the 1.7 'low blow' engine, if this is any help. ;)

Measuring it I get it to be a thread of M18x1.5.
The centre hole is 12mm
