Washer Bottle Leaking?
« on: 21 July 2008, 14:14:28 »

Hi

Hopefully will be a simple one.... I've got a leak in the washer bottle in the front of the car. Leak is a bit slow but a pain in the arse when I have to keep topping it up.

I've check all over, had the front bumper off and yet I cannot find it. It started leaking after I changed the washer pump to a second hand one off gaybay... I bought a new grommet which did not stop it.

Can / do the pumps themselves leak - if so, how do I diagnose?

Thanks and sorry that this post is a bit lame  :-[

Ljay's HID pump itself is leaking, diagnosed with a small flexi mirror and a torch, was quite a leak though so easy to spot.

Attemping to fix with sikaflex, but it isnt looking good, will be resorting to a new / 2nd hand pump i think :(

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Mark - thanks mate - may need it!!

I've looked all over the bottle and cannot find a leak anywhere. If the car is stationary for a couple of days then I can see where its leaked so I then check all over and cannot find anything, guess its not dripping from the point of leak :(

Sure I read somewhere that there is a small hole on the pump somewhere that can leak??

Will have another search around

when i had a little bump (slow speed towbar in traffic!!!) water p1ssed out everywhere but the bottle was fine it just popped back into shape.
(they're very tough which is a good job as they're fitted inside the bumper ::))

The leak came from the pump just being knocked out of grommet and because it's very low in bottle head of water above did the rest.

When i refitted grommet and pump i gave it a good smear of 'Fernox LS-X' (plumbing sealant) just to make sure :y

Had a good look over today, looked like the pipework coming from the HID pump which I nicked the end off and resealed - jobs good I thought!

Was, polish, flushed out the scuttle drains (pollen filters drain was totally blocked!!), flushed out the washbottle and refilled.

Noticed some leaking, jacked up - strange cannot see the leak? Right over to the driver side - found it.

Its dripping from the drivers side HID spraying thing so got a couple of questions I really hope you can help with....

Are these fixable or is it a new unit?
Does the light unit have to come out to replace?
Can someone help with the partnumber please?

Cheers  :y

Checked back history and at about 110k it had a new n/s nozzle which cost approx £30

Can anyone confirm this price (or have a lookup for me please  :y )

GLAD YOU FOUND IT !! on the question of using a dye i always raid the kitchen and use a food colouriing agent they come in a variety of colours and i find the blue or the red to be most effective for spotting leaks!!!
