ok so im in the states an d drive a 98 cadillac catera i love the car as much as people talk bad about it so i figured i would try it out. so while trying to check a fuse yesterday i pulled the ecu out to get a better look and when i did the goof up happened  the ecu hit the pos+ side of the battery and i allready new that it wouldnt start so i tried praying that it would and it didn't :-[ so i today replaced th ecu with one from a local yard and still nothing i also replaced all of the relays it just cranks with no sign of trying to start the car ran perfect until i messed it up the factory motronic is 0 261 204 663 and the one i installed is 0 261 203 988 will this matter? the plugs are the same? any help would be greatly appriciated i love german cars so the time being i will have to drive my e30 bmw 8-)

Would have thought you would need correct ecu.

Have you checked all the fuses?

Ie ones under the steering wheel as well as the ones by the battery.

immobiler prob? the new ecu wont match the key will need recoding tech2 jobie???

When you swap the ECU you will need the key from the same car the ECU came from.

Well, I am not convinced that your old ECU will be totlay toast........have you had a look inside for damaged and burnt tracks.

The most that could have happened is that the 0V tracks might be damaged or the 0V part of teh loom is fired so worth a good inspection.

i didnt think of correct key and i did check all of the fuses it didnt sit on the battery just a quick spark an that was it guess ill have to get the new computer programmed. can i just take the computer in with the key?

I thought the keys were progged to the separate immobilizer ecu in the footwell?

not for sure taking it to a local cadie dealer thursday ill keep you posted! hope they dont try to put it to me with no vasaline! :o

Help always available here but also try 'Yahoo Catera Owners', which are closer to home, like the people here who are very good with Omega's the Catera site is very active again with some knowledgeable members and also good for spares .

the ign dosent flash when the key is in the start mode thats why i dont think its the immob. and thanks for the yahoo idea.
