'Smart' airbag deactivation ?

Am I missing something, or can I not disable the passenger side airbags (front and side) on my Elite (w-reg, facelift) so as to put a child seat there ? If I am reading the manual correctly, one can only use a VX specific child seat with some 'smart' chip embedded.....is there no key option etc. ?

Very little option I'm afraid

No key option, and only some later facelifts have the sensor for the Vauxhall seats.

Its put em in the back i'm afraid.

Oh yes, agreed, just thinking about moving a large~ish load.....and may need the rear seats folding......

Move the largish load first, the kid later...


Mark is right, children should not be in the front seat under any circumstances, with or without a child seat.... I'd say up to 14 years old, though some say 12. Mine didn't sit in the front before 14.

Absolutely.  And has added bonus of not distracting Mum too much - I followed this dozy bint down the road the other day, too busy doing something on the front seat, mounted a kerb.  Was only when I overtook, I realised it was a child seat, and she was nonstop playing with the baby

Airbag in the face hurts!
they aint nice fluffy pillows :(
the general rule for when you HAVE to have kids in the front, is seat as far back as possible.
and NEVER place a rear facing (baby) seat on a seat with airbags.
