Running temperature range
« on: 01 April 2009, 19:39:22 »

I've recently noticed a slight increase in water temps. The only reason I'm concerned is that temps were usually pretty stable around the mid point usually just below with a little increase when in standing traffic with the cooling fan kicking in to drop it again a little.

But lately it's been rising to a degree or two short of 100C in standing traffic. It still drops a few degrees but only to just above the mid point. It's never gone over 100C.
I've done all the checks, water level is good (had a full coolant drain and refill end of October last year), all hoses seem good. Not losing water anyway and it still looks clear (with a red tint.)

Is this the themostat on the way out or is this an acceptable temperature range?

Any info much appreciated!

Mine too, check thermo if it's opening 100% or a dirty radiator.
I don't think it's the pump, then it will be the other way around.

Yes it does sound a bit hot, mine is always below the 90' mark, mind you, that is only according to the guage, which is not always accurate. ::)

Check the fuses in the ECU box.

I have also seen this before on cars where the variant coding was invalid in the instrument panel

OP said it was OK before, which i think rules out programming

Ah, thanks for your responses. As it is a matter of concern I think it's worth a new thermostat immediately!
This will be my first proper DIY on the mig. Don't laugh, I haven't taken a car apart in about 20yrs!
Found thermostats @ £33.47 inc VAT. Is this a good price, made by Febi?

Cheers
