2.5 ECU on 3.0 Engine
« on: 20 April 2009, 23:32:03 »

Runs fine but what differences will you get from having a 2.5 ECU on a 3.0 engine...if reprogrammed to tell it that its a 3.0 engine will it adjust its values automatically?

I'd have thought things like fuel trims will be different - make sure it's not running too lean, you don't want any holes in any valves  ::)

I stand to be corrected, but i'm not sure it's a simple task to reprogram a 2.5 ECU to a 3.0, and vice versa...

During most running it will be closed-loop so the mixture should be correct but, of course, flat-out, wide-open throttle running will be open loop, and that's just where you need it NOT to go lean.

In theory, it will see extra airflow through the MAF and provide the correct amount of fuel. In practice, who knows?  :-/

You might find the ignition map is different too, so it will run better, or give better economy, with the correct ECU although the differences through the seat of the pants when driving will be subtle.

As said, you can't reprogram the ECU. Best bet is to get one from a 3.0 if you're concerned. Or get a chip for a 3.0 and put it in the existing ECU assuming the hardware is the same?

Both the same ECU but are they the same settings?? If not how will the 2.5 settings affect the 3.0 running?? I can see there are different engine management profiles that you can set up when talking to the ECU but dont seem to be able to change the current 2.5 profile to a 3.0 one

Well when the VVOC lot drop in the 3.0 V6 in place of a 2.5 V6 on the Vectra B they run it on the original ECU - the MAF see's more airflow and the ECU compensates fuelling to match.
