On the same subject. I have a leak coming from one of the pipes leading to the same plastic thing. Would it be safe just to put a bit of waterproof tape or would it be easier just to change it?

Seems like you need a new/another pipe or I suppose your HBV could have a crack in it. what kind of hose clips are fitted? If Jubilee, it's not unknown for them to be over tightened & break the plastic stub pipe it's connected to. Best to take it out & have a proper look at it & its hoses for cracks & splits.  :y
