Water leak - 2.0 ltr 8v
« on: 24 August 2009, 14:41:13 »

Developed water leak about a week ago. Rate of loss gradually increased. Had it up on front ramps and leak appears to be coming from just behind top of oil filter. No sign of water from anywhere higher up or from any visible hoses or pipes.

Water leaks freely even when engine not running and header tank filler cap off, i.e. cooling system not pressurised.

No evidence of mixing of oil/water.

Could it be a gasket or even the water pump? Are there any tests to eliminate/confirm without having to remove.

All sensible suggestions gratefully received.

when I had a leak, that leaked more when the car was off, or cool, but not bad on a long 'hot' trip, it was a leaking core plug.

Thanks for your replies guys.

chrisgixer, do you mean 'pump' or is there another meaning to 'bump'?

Jimbob, how do I find and check the core plug?
Roughly how much is a new one?

Thanks again.
