Flickering Oil Light 2.2 DTi
« on: 05 February 2010, 16:39:48 »

Hello all - my oil light has started flickering on idle when the engine has warmed up, the car is a '52 2.2DTi with pretty low mileage (about 80k) and the oil is changed regularly - although probably due a change.
Is this a known fault, any pointers?
Thanks!!

if the dip stick says its got enuf then would say wire loose or need a new sensor, try claning the sensor out first as the can get clogged up with road muck and oil. :y

I found the same problem on the 2.2 diesel Elite I had, inclines on motorways always caused the 'light' to flicker. Best cure, check oil 1 minute after switch off, check oil is at the max mark then add 1/4 litre of oil, it's something to do with the position of the 'oil level pickup'.

Why add oil if the dipstick is showing it's at it's max anyway ?  :-?

Because as I said, on an incline the oil moves to the back of the sump away from the 'level' pick up, it was a 'tip' I was told by a GM engineer, sorted out the problem for over 20k.

1/4 of a litre sounds a bit excessive if its already on the max mark on the dip stick  :-/

An extra 250mil of oil won't do any harm :)
