rear parcel shelf question
« on: 06 February 2010, 22:37:06 »

Had a car in audio shop to fit rear 6x9 speakers, and after two hours trying they said they cannot do it without cutting the metal underneath the shelf.
And they strongly advised against it cause it seems that the metal is a vital support for rear end of the car. Anybody has any advice about this???

There should be two plates tack welded in, so you should be able to remove them like I did when fitting Bose rear subs into the rear shelf of my Mv6 :y

I cant remember off hand what size the holes are 5-6 inches diametre I would have thought.

Ok. When Bose is fitted into Elites, the inner rear parcel shelf has a rear blind plus two holes, one each side right over the holes in the steel shelf under the inner rear shelf, which then has two Bose Speaker Covers so you cant see the holes in the inner rear shelf.
You need to remove the inner rear shelf to fit the Bose Subs which fit into the holes that the plates filled, the Subs then have about 5 or 6 screws which then screw into the steel shelf which is part of the car body under the inner rear shelf, this is what you see from inside the boot.

Hope this helps :y

I have a feeling facelift models don't have the holes for the Bose subs pre-cut.  :-/
