mate could not make it this week so should be next weekend . after taking the heat shield off . there is a clicking nosie comming from that side when runnig . just hope that the head is not cracked . any one give advice on this . if you can tell with out taking the head off first . :)

should be doing it today m8 is here and looking at the haynes book first . then hope eml light will go out with out taking it to get it took off .will let you know how i get on

hi got head off today doing refit next week as mate had to go back home .looks ok just went on no 3 and 4 . big claen down then hope it will be ok .

done the head gaskit . had head skimmed £30 . did there and then while i waited . refitted all bits . car started first time but timing is just out . can any one help with the timing marks for us thanks . eml light is still on at mo . so hopfully when that is done it will go out . just got to wait untill mate calls again to do it .so still not able to drive it . thanks

If it's the emissions lamp thats on (picture of an engine bizzarely enough) then the catalytic convertor may be damaged.

If the cam timing isn't right, I'd have thought that could easily affect emissions.  There are lines on each of the cam sprockets that line up with lines on the front edge of the camcover, then (on our 2.0, guess it's same on 2.2) there's a notch in the crank pulley that lines up (at TDC) with a peg that sticks out from behind it.  Get all three of these marks right, and the cam timing is right.  :y
You can buy a plastic wedge for about a fiver that locks the two cam sprockets, which will make any adjustment much easier if you're DIYing it.
