hi all just got a 2.2 02 plate pre owner says hg has gone water coming out of exhaust is this true that hg has gone or could the block be cracked m8 looking at it soon any help would be app thanks

bumped for replys from page 2

water out the exhaust is not unusual in itself, esp if alot of short journeys.

Any other symptoms?

just a bit rough  running - head gaskit has gone been to see a garrage but exhaust light is on all time will this go out when head is done

He means the EML ;)


Are you losing coolant? is there any oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil?, any smell of exhaust gas or petrol in the expansion bottle? Have you checked the HBV? Have a look through the Maintenance Section and aquaint yourself with the relevant parts. :y

does it loose coolant?

There is no such thing as 'exhaust' light, can you describe what it looks like?

it looks like an engen says in hand book exhaust emmissions are wrong

It certainly does sound like the H/G has gone then! :(
On the plus side, there is plenty of room to work on the 2.2 & the job of replacing the H/G is pretty straightforward if you have a decent set of tools and are mechanically minded. A couple of members have done their own (including myself) and the general consensus is it should cost around £150 to DIY  :y

EML light will extinguish when all faults are corrected .. :)
