MV6 rear springs
« on: 13 June 2010, 22:56:57 »

Has any one got any pics of the rear springs on a late MV6 as I have been under the back of the ex-plod today and have an inner set of yellow springs and the normal dark/black large outter coil springs. is this an MV6 thing or is it my memory is going as I can't remember the old Elite 3.0ltr having two coil springs on each side? or is this just a plod thing. I am also putting the selfleveling shocks back on as they have been removed and after market normal shocks put on. The back end is a bit free in the wet but the tyres must have cost about 10p as they are @#>% and don't like corners in the wet. Any ideas :y

iunusual for mv6 plod to have delf levelling, although some did have it. I take it you've seen the air pipes and pump etc

I'd remove the centre springs if the car is carrying normal loads, wont help grip if its over sprung, i would think anyway.

Might be worth giving chassis details to parts man, see if he can provide original spec. and work it to your needs, self levelling suspension is a little compromised compared to mv6 imo.

The ex-plod was not MV6 spec I just wondered if the MV6 had the inner springs. Looked on the internet (bay) and saw a pair of yellow springs just like the inner ones on the ex-plod and they were for lowering the car by 30-40m/m so am now wondering if one of the other owners of which there are two since it was plod have had them fitted. What effect would that have on the car if I put the air shocks ( self leveling) back on. Do I remove the inner springs first ?

no idea without sering it, and, as said, depends what the original spec should be?
1,highly unlikely the inner yellow springs are original.
2,mv6 does not have inner springs
3,why do you think it should have self levelling? does it have air pipes to the rear shocks, a level sensor by the fuel filter/dif, a pump in the driver front wing behind the fog light? if yes, would suggest sl shocks should be fine and inner springs removed.

Yes it has all the stanard fit for self leveling. Compressor, air lines level sensor, all still there just the shocks removed, must have got a hole in one like always happens but i have a spare set ready to go on I am just hanging on until I get new short air lines arrive as they must have taken them off when they removed the old shocks all the other stuff still in place.

ok, so next q has to be why disable it? is there a fault? or just strapped for cash and fitted cheaper shocks? is fuse 27(i think)present or is the pump unplugged to stop it running? will it work when re connected? etc
