Venting Frustration !!
« on: 21 June 2010, 20:16:42 »

This is odd...Is it normal !

My fan system seems to work fine, leaving it on windscreen MOST of the time..BUT when I switch it to "feet" "face" or whatever...the fan goes nuts.
Full on instantly and i can't change the speed..can't slow it down or anything. Does the same the instant i switch to Climate, which i can understand as it will work hard to get the car to the required temperature BUT why do I have to sit there on normal mode with a force 10 gale flying at me which I can't slow down.

Is this normal..???

Does your temperature display work correctly?

AFAIK the climate control uses the outside temperature in its calculations which could cause the fan to go crazy.

Have you done the "re-sync" thing?  If memory serves, you press & hold OFF & AUTO for a few seconds.  ::)

Two things...

If I climb into a car thats been baking in the sun all day I open the windows for the first few hundred yards to give the climate a wee starter for 10 before closing up and setting the climate to low or whatever.

Also, its worthwhile getting a tech2 upgrade to the latest version of the Climate software to avoid the 'gale in face' syndrome....   ;)

I'm pretty sure Jamie "Theboy" upgraded the climate in December.

I don't mind the initial gale in face as long as I can turn the fan down. Its NOT a hair thing as I'm virtually bald ?

Right !   After a bit of tinkering I've discovered that when venting to face or feet, I can ONLY adjust the speed of airflow when the temp is set to "L0"...on any numbered setting its full blast only.

Weird !

If it adjusts properly on "LO" it should be OK, I'd have thought. :-/

Thought I'd seen a car with an issue like this a couple of weeks back until MickDundee's car did it as well in the lakes when TheBoy and I were fitting the dipping mirror.

If you increase the temperature to roughly that in the cabin, does it calm down, or allow you to manually control the fan? As said, does the outside temperature display look plausible?

There is a setting on the climate panel, accessible by Tech 2, that allows better manual control of the fan. I enabled it on mine and it allows the fan to be controlled manually under all circumstances, and it  remains at that speed once set, instead of immediately reverting to "AUTO" if a temperature setting, or the ambient temperature, change.

However, it's important to eliminate a possible fault before tweaking, IMHO.

Hi Kevin,

You are EXACTLY right. As I turn the temp up, the fan slows down...just as you described...but I still can't change it manually. NOT sure if it will react the same on AUTO though....right now I have AUTO off.

THAT SAID, I only have the fans blowing at me if i want cooling down so having it on LO with the fan speed adjustable is not the end of the world.

I like the Tech2 idea though....it can wait though.

Thank you for the info. Interesting.
