TD intake manifold cleaning
« on: 11 July 2010, 14:45:52 »

hey guys just wondering how beneficial it is to clean the intake manifold on my TD, was gonna take the egr assembly off and then clean the manifold from the inside using a toilet brush and white spirit, my car smokes alot at night so i thought i would clean the intake as i doubt it would have been done before,
does anybody have any tips or have done it before and could tell me how to avoid problems

Its easy to do, just buy 6 new gaskets before you remove the manifold. You'll be suprised at how choked the inlet will be :o

Did mine during the week. Was surprised how clean it was, just a light misting of oil. Had a bmw 325 tds (same engine) that had a layer of hard crud about 5mm think all around the inlet runners. I've had the egr blanked for a while which helps alot. I also found the manifold gaskets were missing due to a previous numpty owner. Does make a difference after a good clean out.
