Hi Guys, I need your advice
My 3.0 auto estate has started to vibrate, as though the wheel nuts are loose. It is mainly through the steering wheel. It is worst when accelerating slowly from 45- 55 mph. It also seems to happen when cruising at a steady 80 ( only on unrestricted autobahns, of course!). I have checked the wheel nuts and they are tight. When I bought the car 10 months it had a very slight vibration, however it is now getting progressively worse
Can anyone please help???

wheel balancing on the front - or lack of - will cause a shake through the steering wheel at various speeds, generally you can 'drive though it'
rear wheels needing balancing will shake the whole car at a specific speed. You may have lost a weight.

if its lost a weight surely it wont progresivly get worse? itll either vibrate or it wont.

out of balance wheels tend to show at certain speeds, and the become better once you've gone through that speed. I recently had a vibration problem with my Astra at 65mph-ish. When balanced all was back to normal ........ it was still a slow noisy diseasal Astra

Depends on the amount of weight(s) and where they were fitted, at certain speeds you could drive throught the vibration, add a a weight to sort it, if they get it wrong you might get a vibration at a tottaly differt speed.

Either way it's best checked out before and wear takes place.

Well guys, I took the car to my local Kwik Fit (this one does have a good reputation). They told me both front wheels are buckled! They balanced them both and the transformation is remarkable I really thought it was something more serious, as the vibration was very pronounced.
This has highlighted a failing by North East Tyres who fitted two new tyres on the front about 4 months ago. They failed to balance the wheels after fitting the tyres. There wasn't any weights on either wheel......I won't be using them again

pre-facelift MV6 alloys are like toffee, Elite wheels though are much stronger. I would not trust Kwik Fit, check out Wheels in Motions new list of approved franchises, should be one near you

So just balancing is not the long term, or even short term answer then? :-/ :-/

Buckled wheels will do you no favours in terms of tyre wear, suspension set up, and in general when at speed

Trust Kwik fittup to come up with a bodge solution!  Says it all

I will have to find a couple of Elite wheels, how can I tell If second hand ones are buckled or not?
I don't suppose new wheels exist anymore?

Nothing in Devon or Cornwall. The nearest to me is Gloucester which Google Maps tells me is a 300 mile round trip
