Hi

Often, if i have my radio on with the ignition off, and then start the car up, with the radio still on - it loses it's preset channel as though the battery has been disconnected..

Has anyone else had this problem or know what the cause is?.

A model number would help for the radio.

However, common causes for that are

1 - Low Battery power - it may start the car, but if there is not enough to turn the starter and keep everything else live, the radio can lose presets - give the battery a boost and see if problem stops.

2 - Ignition switch fault - a worn switch can momentarily remove the live feed from the radio and other circuits - Only the radio ever shows this fault and again, everything else may appear ok.

3 - Memory eeprom in radio is dying - requires replacement.

Although not an exhaustive list, they are certainly the most common across all vehicles that we see here, and in that order too.

Is your radio the original one, or an aftermarket one?

If it's an aftermarket one, you'll need to join the red and yellow wires together on the iso wiring harness

Wire it up properly.

Swap the red and yellow over - DO NOT JOIN THEM TOGETHER

Unsure - when it starts to affect the radio, most people tend to change it at that stage, unsure what long term problems would be - maybe others can advise.

I can't check at the moment, the cars layed up at my dads house - i'm changing the oil cooler

The radio has not got a built in phone though.  It has a 4 disc changer.

It's a facelift tho, so won't have the ccrt700 :-/
