Key fobs/locking systems.
« on: 03 December 2009, 07:57:57 »

Am I right in understanding there are two different types of locking system on the Omega's? radio and infra red?
The reason I ask is my ignition key is a two button with no infra red light, and the spare I got with the car, which is a blank has a litle red round dot on the bottom button, which I'm presuming is a light.
I'm thinking that the spare  will not work with my car, is that correct? making it pointless to have it cut and programmed.

infra red were only on pre 95 cars, all radio after that.

There are different bits inside the key (with radio)...Megamos or Delphi....everything needs to be from the same manufacturer to be able to work properly.

Right thanks Jimbob, as I thought, the spare is an old blank, I could have it cut as a spare but it wouldn't operate the locking and alarm system, so really I need a new spare key.

Mind you having said that, I just remembered I saw someone selling just the button section on Ebay, I could get one of those and fit it on my spare key, and get that programmed.
