Hello - and firstly sorry if this has been posted a million times
I have one decent fob that appear to work, other than the boot and one that has seen better days (battery section come away from circuit board)
Can I just 'get one' from ebay etc etc and make it work / program it or not that simple?

That would require tech2 programming to make it work with your car.
