mileage led display
« on: 13 May 2011, 13:05:35 »

Please can some one help? The LED mileage/trip display in the speedo has suddenly stopped working. I'm hoping its just a blown fuse. I have checked all the fuses in the fuse box under the steering column, to no avail. Is there something else I should check, or do I need to resort to the dealers.

1.  Yes it is a Vec.
2.  Dash board dimmer switch on full.

Beginning to suspect might be bulbs or some electrical failure to instrument circuit board.

Ah! Posting a Vectra help question in the Omega electrical & audio help with a vague title ........ hence the confusion  ::) ::) ::) ::)

No idea of the Vectra, but my Astra G once showed an odometer display of ------  :-? :-? I pulled & checked each fuse in turn, they were all OK but it fixed it  :-? :-? :-? and the car had been clocking the miles despite not displaying it.

Thanks Andy

I have pulled the fuses, all ok. still not sorted display, but it is still clocking the miles. You can just see the numbers in bright sunlight.

Havent got a vectra to check on any more, but I imagine its pull the clocks panel (from memory similar to the omega)
so pull the centre air vents out to get at 1st screws
next over steering wheel, under cowling
disconnect mid, and pull the lot out

play it by ear, as they may not be right / all the steps needed.

then change lamps as neccessary.

Thanks to Andy B and Jimbob.
I've finally managed to get round to sorting the led mileage display.
Just for info, to remove dash, start with the centre air vents, then the drivers air vent. I used some long thin pliers to to pull the airvent grills. Remove steering column cowling, Rhere are 2 x screws in rhe lower edge of the instrument behind steerring column cowl. Once all screws have been removed instrument should lift away, but is a bit (lot) fiddley lifting over the wiring for the indicator and wiper storks. Once the panel is removed bulb replacement is easy, the bulb I was changing is recessed into the back of the panel and has a hex shape base/bulb holder. A 6mm socket fits niceley. Be careful not to over tighten new bulb, only needs quarter turn. Rhen as all the good books say refitting is reversal of above. Whole job took me about 2 hours, including a little trial and error. The bulb cost £1.38 from my local Vauxhall dealers.
Result I can now read the mileage again.
