Have you cured the oil leak, which I'm assuming was the camshaft cover seal/gasket having become fubbered - Did you use a genuine gasket to fix the leak, if not I should as 'copy' one from your general Autoshop do not tend to last long!

When you say that your cam sensor is burning out, are you replacing it with a genuine one or a cheap one of such as ebay, again genuine one is the way to go.  Also have you got any codes that are indicating an error.

If you can elaborate on exactly what happened initially and what you've done so far, we may be able to help out a bit better ???

When you say cam sensor showing as the problem, how do you know this is the issue, have you got a code from which it's telling your it's the cam sensor (post up the code) or are you assuming it's the cam sensor? ???

Out of curiosity, is the sensor the correct one for your year of car, or is it a kit with a modification that you have to do to make it work for your engine, as I know GM did have a batch of these floating around?

Any pictures you can post that may help perhaps, with regards to the cam sensor in place or the condition of the coil pack, etc?  ???

Maybe the heat is causing a problem with the wiring or e.c.u.?

Whereabouts is the e.c.u. mounted on a 2.2 petrol?

Not unknown for brand new OEM sensors to be u/s straight out of the parts bin! ??? If your new replacement sensor has failed within 12 months of purchase, I would take it back to the Dealer for refund/replacement. The 2.2 ECU lives in the main fuse box next to the battery but I don't think the fault lies there tbh! Have you had a good look at the wiring into the sensor end?, this isn't captive in the sheath at that end & could be getting strained when fitting causing a duff connection. Also worth checking the sensor plug connections for security, cleanliness etc. :-\

More interesting question is, what are the symptoms and the codes.

For example, if its camshaft sensor incorrect signal this could be the sensor/wiring/ecu or could also be another factor resulting in an 'incorrect signal' e.g. if the timing was out or there was slack in the cambelt setup.
