engine management light on after changing cat ....
« on: 31 May 2012, 19:03:00 »

just a query. I had to change the cat on my 2.2 last year as the flexi joint had broken  >:(  I was warned in advance that it was possible that the management light might come on as I was replacing the cat with a non-vauxhall one. sure enough after a couple of days it did.( code PO420 ) at its last mot the engineer did comment on the light as the car passed the mot with flying colours otherwise including emmisions ... its more of an annoyance than anything else that the light stays on. I've tried clearing the codes but of course it comes back within a day or two ... I've heard theres something that can be put inline with on of the cat sensors and it basically fools the management system into thinking everythings ok. Has anyone else had this problem or tried this solution ?   I imagine there must be as even the newest Omegas are 9 years old now...

Move the pre-cat lamba to post-cat

Nope. You`ve got two cats on the downpipe. Pre-cat and main cat. #1 lambda is located manifold side of pre-cat, needs to be moved other side of pre-cat. #2 lambda stays where it is

And the pattern cats are universally crap.  If the light wasn't on before this work, its down to the garage to fix. Shit parts have caused this. Simples.

The garage should have told you you can weld a new flexi joint in for a few quid ;)

The cat didn't need changing, thats the sad part. It just needed the a new flexi welded in.  But that involves some element of skill, thus rules out the retards working at most exhaust centres.

I do feel for you maverick  :'(

Especially as that place probably won't have your old cat, they would quickly weigh that in, making even more money (£30-50?)

Rob, when you say to move the no1 sensor from pre to post cat, might sound obvious but is there somewhere for it to screw in ?

Nope. This guide is for the V6. Same procedure for you, just one downpipe
