Did the 2,4,6 coilpack and plugs today (thanks AndyC for price and prompt delivery) and this is what met me when I stripped it out.

Strange that it was plug 2 that was very wet whilst plug 4 was the fault code that was thrown up.  There was a bit of rubber missing from the end of the 4 dispac connector but that shouldnt make much odds.

Changed the 1,3,5 plugs sinch the bonnet was up (foolish not too) and it looks like only time until that goes tits up as well.

codes removed, now running sweet as a nut again.

Scuttle foam dry as the proverbial witches tit.  Screen seal seems fine as well so I put it down to infrequent use of late such that the water that does leak through is not getting hot enough to dry off, albeit that its supposedly sealed from the elements.

That said, if water gets in then it can surely evaporate out?   :-\

Heat is needed for evaporation to occur (Latent heat of evaporation) ... given the engine mass is cold if not run, there is little energy available for evaporation to occur under normal conditions ... it has been very wet and cold recently which means more water and less heat for evaporation to occur ..

Yup, aware of that Nige.  Its because car has had infrequent use as stated initially.  Water gets in quicker than I can boil it out. :)

Might be worth replacing the plug rubber in order to keep any moisture away from the wiring :y

I run a bead of silicon or similar along the top of the metal scuttle drain, where the joun in the two scuttle halves is. Need to remove that useless foam draft excluder stuff vx use first though.

As said a test with a hose on the screen will show the leaks.

...if that helps. :)

Problem is, once the moisture gets under the coil pack there is nowhere for it to go once it starts to evaporate, so the problem often occurs once the engine gets hot. The water starts to evaporate and then finds its' way under any rubbers that aren't perfect and shorts the HT to ground. I suspect this is why it was no. 4 that was misfiring.

Mine is getting a bit grumpy after a cold start when it's been damp, so will have to have a look at it.
