Vectra-B isn't bad if you don't mind the cramped cabin, and the laryness of the front with bigger engines.

Vectra-C has, errr, uhmmm, errr...   ...nope, overstretched myself there...

All the sites ive been on to check the oil grade are saying 5-30 why would they state that if that grade shaggs the engine/oil pump
Ive been out to the car today started it and left it ticking over for about 45 mins and the light hasn't flashed once so maybe the engine aint shagged and the oil pump is ok

mileage is 11k it drives like a new car seats look like they have never been sat in im going to try the oil switch and see if that solves the problem i may take the one off my damaged omega when i get it back as i will be taking most of the engine parts off anyway

Not even run in then at 11K and that's a pre facelift is it not (can't see headlights). Oil pressure to low on tickover when warm so red oil warning light flicks. Daft question but have you checked the oil level? Must be pre facelift as it's a 2.2dti so should have semi 10w/40 in it not fully 5w/30. Could have had the fully in it when you got it.
2.2DTi only available as FL ;)The drop to 5/30 was only to allow the 20k oil servicing, which is probably what has shagged the engine in this thread.

So, I'd go for the thicker oil to keep the pressure up at idle. Or replace the oil pump, but probably not worth it as its a Vectra-C, bloody 'orrible things.

True 2.2DTI only on Omega F/L but this is a Vectra so the F/L had the 1.9CDTI engine and 3.0CDTI is this not true :-\

2.2 DTi available in Vectra B and Vectra C PFL.  Changed to 1.9 CDTi for FL.  3.0 CDTi was available in PFL and FL.   :y

Replace the oil pressure switch located on the rear of the block when mounted transversly. (drivers side of the engine when installed in an Omega).

The state a Fully Synthetic oil purely to stretch the servicing interval (which may appease fleet managers and Vx salesmen, but is detrimental to engine longevity). Because that is what the manufacturer states, that is what every semin official resource will state.

If that diesel engine has had 20k services over its 120k life, I'll wager that its way past its best  :'(. Remember on diesels, the oil goes quite abrasive after a relatively short time (3-5k), as the oil picks up and holds the blow-by particulates. This is why diesels turn their oil black so quickly.

The oil light flickering at idle is a classic sign of a worn engine. It *may* be a faulty oil pressure switch, but these normally either work or not, not give inaccurate readings, hence my worries. I hope I'm wrong.

A thicker oil will help to keep the oil pressure up a bit at idle if the oil pump is tired.

I hope that helps explain things a little :)

To know for definate, you need to slap an oil pressure gauge on it, and measure the oil pressure when the oil is very hot and the engine is at idle, and compare that to GM specs.

Oil light flickering on a 2.2DTi is usually a failing pressure switch. Usually flickers at idle and goes out again once you apply a little throttle.

Seen two that have done this and were fine once the pressure switch was replaced. Both times the oil had not long been changed.... not sure what the link is between the failure and the oil change tbh
