Is cam cover gasket same for 2 litre as 2.2?
« on: 08 June 2013, 06:21:01 »

Y188NFA 2 .2 petrol manual
EML (engine picture) light on. It's due MOT, had car one year, thought I should change plugs; removed coil pack stick, found plug holes full of oil. When I bought the car last year I bought a cam cover gasket for 2 litre part number GM 55558349 but did not fit it. Will it fit the 2.2?

I know. I must do the breathers at the same time.

Oh yes, genuine Vauxhall part, with genuine Vx 0 rings. It's a job I have done before on the 2 litres, but clearing the breathers on a 2.2 is all new to me. Everything seems undisturbed since it left the factory 12 years ago.

With genuine gasket and clean breathers they should last at least 100k or 10 years, mine lasted just 8 years, but first 80K was done by a monkey dealer  ::)

I made the guide here: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90597.0

Trying to think what differences there could be, can't think of any.  :-\

Previously we have seen 2.0 heads on a 2.2 engine, there are few differences but don't think cam cover gasket wise there are anyway.  :-\

Need someone with to confirm part numbers  :y

Hi Terry

That part number 55558349 is listed as a 2.2 gaskets not a 2.0. The 2.0 is 90501944 and there is no supersession from onr to the other

Cheers

Thanks for all the advice gentlemen. The camcover gasket is now replaced and the sealant is curing.

Two little slips in removing the throttle box. In unplugging the cam sensor a ring of insulation tape fell off. I tried to pick it up, missed, and it disappeared. I guess I had better recover that before I run the engine. I had trouble unplugging the lead from the throttle box. When I finally twigged I had to pull back the grey plastic bit I pulled it back and dropped it. Bother. Cannot find it. I do not think it does anything. The clip release is under it.

Looking on the bright side, the small breather hole was completely blocked. I eventually cleared it by poking a wire through it. That explains the gasket going, which in turn explains the misfire. The main breather tube I did remove, but it was not blocked. I have pulled it through with a rag now.

Good job  :y

Clean breathers really help those engines, they need all the horses they can muster  :)
