did a quick oil change on the Ford today (drained normally via the drain plug hole). had a pan full of oil (about 4L) and I was in the garage and thought 'hmmm ive got a pan full of oil sitting right next to a oil vac pump... lets see how long it will take'

15 mins later it had got about a litre  :o :o :o :o :o :o

You need a better pump, mine will do about a litre a minute with hot oil.

to be honest mate it was a cheap one and I don't want to do it this way myself anyway unless I had no choice :)

Anyone tempted to buy the Screwfix spherical one, avoid at all costs, I bought one to use on SWMBO's Jazz, and returned it after one aborted attempt to use it. DO NOT BUY ONE!!!

I've never tried the manual ones but have heard bad reports about them.  I can understand why, I have a manual pump and that is useless.  The electric ones are quite good like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370857766088 . Only £20 less than half the screwfix manual one.   Being electric you just leave them running,  doesn't take long as I recall.  They work fine with quite hot used engine oil but don't try them on unfiltered oil with particles in eg the sludge in a rusty diesel tank knackered my last one in a minute.  Filthy filtered engine oil seems to be fine though.
