i was watching max tv on sky channel 666 the other day and i saw my house being shown whilst they advertised a home security camera system it clearly shows my garage which i have to add the door was open and you could see right into there. now i know that the woman opposite works on said channel as a presenter but what worries me is that i have some expensive tools and equipment in there as well as a couple of motorbikes which i`m storing for a friend whilst he goes through a divorce.now i did not give permission either verbally or written to allow this as the advert clearly shows her hubby walking the dog in front of my house as well...what can i do about it? anything or nothing? a friend at work says they are breaching the data protection act and that i can complain and request all copies of said advert be destroyed is this true or am i gonna have to lump it???

got a feeling you may have to just lump it mate. unless your house can be clearly identified ( street name and house number ) then they will just argue that it could be any house house in any street. try having a chat with the lady and take it from there. does take the p**s tho. she could of at least nipped over to tell you what was happening and that it would be on tv, giving you a chance to tell her to f*ck *ff.

i don't think this is a DPA issue, the question you have to ask yourself is:

Could joe bloggs identify me from the information that is on the screen, if they can then this could be considered a breach.

Personally i would approach the person concerned and ask her to consider the implications of her actions, if she doesn't seem interested then i would write to the company she works for complaining of the way in which aspects of your property were transmitted on TV.

Don't think this is a DPA issue, because there's no data storage element and you aren't identified.  Also, because nobody asked your permission to record the images, you don't have the copyright, so you can't do anything on that front.  Shouldn't think there was any question of trespass, since they probably didn't come on to your land.

In fact, unless there's some law that that deals with invasion of privacy, I don't think there's anything you can do.  

Just grin   and say to all your friends "Did you see my house on TV"

I seem to remember something along the lines of..

If anyone could see what is transmitted just by walking past, you have no grounds for complaint.
Sort of what the street wars programmes use etc.
