By the look of it you could probably just tease the handle apart a little and weld a couple of penny washers onto the inside to re-form the hole the hinge runs in..

Post it to me and I will do a weld reconstruction with washers to replace the worn metal  :y

Shimano did a push the cable outer, rather than pull the metal inner type brake lever.

No reason why not if it's suitably sheathed... :y

What's the difference? The result at the caliper (or whatever) end is exactly the same.

The inner goes one way, the outer goes tother. ???

Well, normal cable, and handle came off no problem at all...
Looks like it hasnt seen a blob of grease in a long long time looking at the wear...
Any further thoughts & confirmations?
Still think this looks washer and weldable?

Definitely :y (but a short piece of tube would probably be easier to align than washers and would provide a greater wearing surface)

Worth putting a new pivot pin in at the same time....

PS on second thoughts... a stack of washers would look like a tube once welded together.

Yep, washer and weld (or tube and weld) plus a new pivot turned up in the lathe.  :y

The last part of the jigsaw is the fixed bracket that the pivot runs in - having seen the wear on the pivot and handle I expect the holes in the fixed bracket to be oval too :-\

I would of expected there to be more wear towards out the outer ends of the pivot pin if that was the case  :y
