I would of thought, if it's capable of 5ghz, it would transmit both 2.4 and 5 at the same time? No?

If so, and your device isn't seeing the 5ghz network then the device isnt 5ghz capable. As most older stuff isn't.

Tv is a toshiba smart serial no, 82p21983. Taken from handbook "it is recommened to use ieee 802 11n on 5ghz for video and hd streaming.

The router is a bt homehub5.

Right used the few technical brain cells I have and managed to change  the 5ghz to show itself on the tv. But I think due to the week signal strength it just drops off and then the tv wont find it. It only shows the 2.4ghz. Is there anyway of boosting the 5ghz. If not to get the same data transfer amout for hd tv would it be better to run a cable.

Odd, our 5ghz is more stable than 2.4.

Might be worth running a cable to the ether net port on the tv. Something that I need to do for the amp and sky box, so may as well do the xbox and PS3 too, not that I use them any more.

The amp drops out after a couple of minutes regardless on wifi, the router is upstairs in the office.

....although we had an n900 wifi only router that worked much better than the Virgin standard superhub 2 we have now.
