Ok guys
             3.2 has developed an oil leak . Started a week or so ago. I thought it was the oil filter housing to block seal as the leak seemed to be coming from that area & running down to the 2 bolts at the bottom of the bell housing .

Yesterday done away with the canister & cap oil filter & changed to spin on . . . but leak is still there .

Area above the oil filter is dry but oil is appearing from the bottom of  the crankshaft sensor where it fits into the block.

I have taken out both rubber bungs at the bottom of the bell housing & no oil appears there .

Oil does appear though at the very small oblong hole  (10mm x 2mm) at the bottom of the bell housing .

Could this be the rear crankshaft oil seal gone & spraying oil about making it seep from both the crankshaft sensor hole & the

small oblong hole at the bottom of the bell housing . This leak is only small  . . . leaving a small 75mm patch  on the ground overnight.

Cam covers are all ok & dry as were changed last year.

any advice greatly recieved .

OK then . . . so AR35 & torque convertor out as one  . . . drop & pull back out of the way  . . dig out old oil seal  . . 

carefully fit new one  . . . AR35 & TC back in .

Presume follow Haynes book of lies to drop gearbox , Re: starter, gearbox switch , prop etc.  ?    As cannot see a defined guide on here for that

Anything else I should be doing while this is out & being sorted ?

Any idea of cost of the oil seal ?   can't be too expensive . . . cough cough

Don't forget the drive plate has to come off too.

Could do the auto box seal as well. Easy to do with the box out. If dry, gamble and leave it.
But I am not a lucky man

There is a trick to fitting the rear crank oil seal.
If you simply try to press and tap it in, then it will likely leak again .... dont ask how I know.

You need to find some thin rigid plastic sheet or similar (I had some brass shim available), you wrap this around the end of the crank and secure the overlap with sellotape etc. to form a tube.

Take the tube off the crank. Lube the oil seal and gently ease the tube into the oil seal from the outside, being careful not to damage the seal lip.

Now offer tube and seal up to the crank and engine and press / tap into place. The tube guides the oil seal lips over the end of the crank.
