Bonnet release doesn't release
« on: 11 June 2015, 13:52:32 »

I pull release lever, bonnet does not spring up, is not open. I place heavy item (wife) on front centre of bonnet. pull lever, bonnet pops up. I open bonnet, adjust cable, test action, slam bonnet, bonnet opens OK. Next morning bonnet will not open. Cable hs not slipped.
Yesterday I moved the slam panel pin a bit away from locking spring. Tested it, OK. This morning, would not open. Puzzling.
All I haven't tried is screwing the pin in or out.
Have I missed something? I am nervous of changing pin length in case I go the wrong way and cannot open the bonnet at all. Please advise.

'Pin length', I'm not sure?

If you look above the NS headlight there's a little bracket and a screw, if you slacken this, move/pull on the wire (tot he right), add a little tension, tighten, then try pulling the lever, and keep going trial and error until you're happy. Might have got this all wrong but did this a couple of months and it cured my slack cable and no issues since.  :)

Thanks DBG. That's what I meant by adjusting cable; always worked in the past, not this time. I'm not clear in my head how placing heavy weight on centre front of bonnet always frees it, but it always does. I must give it some more thought.

Sticky pin... Apply lots of plus gas then a bucket load of grease...

Then lower bonnet to first latch and bounce it up and down to work the spring...

Then adjust as per guide :y

Possibly also worth adjusting the rubber stops a smidgen in...

With bonnet up, watch the moving parts while someone else pulls the lever, the bar can wear and is only a couple of quid to replace, there is a guide...

Grease the springy plunger bit and adjust the cable clamp, as the guide iirc? :)

Sorry, yes, assumed that the latch mechanism was actually working and greased. Obviously if not - then grease it  :)

Thanks to all for advice. Sadly, cleaning, greasing and adjusting did not work, so I resorted to changing the latch spring. Marks DTM Calib has written a useful guide, and I followed it. It begins 'this is a nice easy and cheap part to replace'. It was cheap enough (£3.65) but not so easy. Perhaps I made hard work of it. It will be easier next time.

Yes, Robson, it's working fine now. Pics attached of old spring, obviously seriously worn and liable to catch. It is also now clear why sitting wife above latch frees it.
