Radio goes off when close rear passenger door ????
« on: 06 August 2015, 20:14:06 »

Strange one  this.  I have to try and sort my Sisters Zafira (2008 Plate Breeze Model) over the weekend so thought I get some advice....

Apparently, when you open rear passenger door the radio is fine, but then when you close it the radio goes off !!!! Or rather the Sound disappears !!

It's hit and miss sometimes, but if your gentle in closing the door its generally OK.

The unit stays on and powered up and a CD would continue playing, but in science.

Speaker terminals or wire to them shorting somewhere in the door to gnd ?

There is another gremin, in that the horn stops working occasionally.  I have checked all the fuses and they are fine.  Will check if voltage is there on the horn terminals next !!

I suggested she adjust balance so only front speakers on and try door trick  ;)  Not sure if speaker outputs are still "active/coupled" even though balance would be adjusted - so if then shorting them would have an effect ?

I shall inspect over the weekend.  What can possibly go wrong  :D :D :D

Im sure Ive heard of something similar before, and iirc there is a loom repair kit for it, something to do with treading on the wrong area?!?!?!

Wire break in the rear door loom, its shorting out the speakers.

Open the door and disconnect the loom from the door (it is a connector), pull back the rubber boot and all will be revealed  :y

Yep diagnosis correct  :y

2 Speaker wires were broke completely, and I am convinced a bit shorter than the rest of the loom ?  Perhaps this is why there was tension on them and broke (assisted by the opening/close of the door !!)

A few other wires in there were not looking good to  :'(

All fixed for now.  :)
