Hi all,
Have fitted a new genuine GM cat back exhaust system to my motor.

Fair enough, it fits exactly right to all the fixings, and pipes and back box line up just right etc.

But, for all that, it doesn't fit as good as the original system. They seem to have reduced the number of sets and bends in the pipes for it to fit snug under the car. Pipes going to back box come much lower under the axle, then go straight up to back box instead of neat bends under it.

Also think it seems a wee bit more noisy than original.

Any one else found the same ??

No, perfect the 2 I have fitted.

Yours is Ex police iirc - think they have different front pipes, dont know if this affects things?

They do.......and are over £500 for each side even on TC from Vx

Mee too. Replaced sysytem from the cat's back and new back box is different shape, an upgrade according to Vx, but noisier than before - even with the hole in :-/

My comment was really that new system doesn't seem as snug a fit under the car.

When I compare the systems, the old one has much tighter sets in the pipes, so that where they go under the axle, the pipes are further from the ground.

On the new system, the pipes get from the centre boxes to the end box, and fit in perfectly, but they do it with just a couple of bends.  Sort of as if it was a wiring job, intead of going round and clipping tight in corners, they have draped it across the corner. Just doesn't look neat thats all.  I wouldn't have thought anything of it if it had been a pattern system.

Just me being pernickety I suppose.

I know SweetOmega was initially disppointed with his orignal system but I haven't heard from him if he has fitted it yet.

My aftermarket system   was a bit of a dog to fit and seal at the front and rear joints, and I had a problem with the two pipes rattling against each other where they run parallel.  Now all ok though.

How did you get over the parallel pipes rattling together??

I am undecided as to whether to prise them apart, or clamp them together.

I enquired at Vx today about possible difference in front pipes, in case it had made a difference to the fitting of my exhaust system.

I was assured there is no difference in the front pipes of ex plod vehicles to any other standard vehicle system. There were a very few special systems, but these were solely for use on special armoured versions of the Omega for diplomatic use.

Parts man had heard all about this story. Apparently started by a seller on e-bay to enhance possible price of a pair he had for sale.

The only difference is front systems for 2.6 and 3.2 have pre and main catalytic convertors, (which we all know about) and 2.5 and 3.0 do not.

On estate versions, the front systems are the same as saloon models, but the mid and rear sections are different.

I showed him pictures of the old and the new systems to show the difference in pipe layout, he contacted Vx technical dept, and reply was that " The systems available now are improved systems, and although may look different, are built to the same high standard as the original systems"

TC book lists the plod cats as a different part number....

Tradeclub was also the source of my info, not ebay, but all a by the by to your issue anyway by the sounds of it.

I Remember Mark commenting on how my system was from Russelheim or somewhere and was factory GM, not just GM
