Evo magazine this month.

1998
petrol cars 85%
diesel cars 15%

2008
petrol cars 56%
diesel cars 43%
Alternative fuel and electric 1%........Diesels are taking over the world.

This could account for the extra cost of diesel. :'( :y

Our European neighbours have been buying more oil burners than petrols for well over a decade.

And if you think we're behind in the came....look at the US

From the moment I picked up your book until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Some day I intend reading it.

I believe diesel does cost more to refine, again i am happy to be proved wrong on that.

Another reson for diesel cars being more popular is the fact that they drive a lot like petrol cars these days, especially the more modern common rail stuff.
In the last 10-15 years there has been massive investment in diesel technology and so the engins are quiter, more economical and still as robust as they have been, if there had been as much investment in the petrol engine then it is fair to say the technolocical advances could have made it better than it is today.

Once the populus adopted diesel the government decided to milk it for all it was worth, this has always been the fear with LPG and other 'alternative fuels' once they become popular they lose their advantage.

if this price difference was to continue or aonother 10 years it would be interesting to see the petrol/diesel ratio difference then
