Exporting the Miggy

We (my wife, daughter and me) are looking into emigrating to New Zealand as she has a work offer.
There is one Opel Omega Estate 2.5 CDX in the NZ autotrader so I'm obviously not going to find a replacement there. As our miggy is part of the family we are looking to export it - yes I know the costs involved - not as bad as I thought though

My question is;- What spares would members suggest I take with me? Cambelt etc spring to mind but any suggestions are welcome.
Also should I have the electronics, gearbox etc updated before I go? If so who is the nearest to Cornwall who has the right equipment?

GM sell the miggy over there its called a Holden Commodore

GM also use the X25XE in the Vectra B's that they used to sell over there under a holden badge!

So engine parts should be easy to source...

Suspension components wishbones etc?

i also think they use the X30XE in the commodore but im not sure

I wouldn't even consider the expense of exporting a run-of-the-mill car like an Omega to a place where there are loads of cars with proper V8's  :y

Yeah I've seen the Holdens. You don't get many older ones though. People in NZ run their cars til they die

I "exported" my car to Spain. A good move financially as the cost of acquiring a car here are high (both residuals and transfer tax). Like in NZ people here drive the car till it/they die.

There have been many times I wished I hadn't brought the Omega much as I love it. Getting spare parts, despite there being Opel dealers is difficult as they are few and far between. Scrap yards (I have seen) don't have petrol Omegas in them or diesels for that matter.

You may be able to get parts via say EBay Uk, but not all sellers ship worldwide, but my advice would be not to take it. Get a local car instead. If you do insist on taking it then I would go over it with a fine tooth comb and get it up to A1 before setting off and then take all the parts that seem to go on the car. You could ship these stowed inside. e.g. exhaust system.

Exporting a car is straightforward enough via DVLA but I would check there aren't any undue costs at the other end other than a local MOT, inspection and NZ plates.

Cam and crank sensors definatly, plus probably a genuine set of spare cam cover gaskets and the black sealant.  Also a box of oil filters -dead cheap on TC.  HBV maybe?

wishbones! if yours havent been changed! they wear out round the 100k mark

Exhaust parts there big and heavy so i would get some in gb as shipping to NZ for them would be £££

A 99 Miggy will be regarded as pretty new as when you arrive in New Zealand you need to set your clock/watches back 30years ;D ;)

Well it's not going to rust anymore and as some people are still driving Austin 7's it should have a few more years to run than in UK. Yes I know there's less to go wrong on an Austin!!

They do have a sort of MOT (A WOF - warrant of fitness) and I can have 20 air fresheners off my mirror if I want!!!
