eBay problem - item not as described...
« on: 28 April 2009, 14:05:38 »

I bought some new rear shocks for the CG the other week, they were delivered today...  However they are not the same as the ones in the picture!

This is the advert and the shocks I bought for the CG...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=200319998142

Notice, at the right of the picture, you can see they are height adjustable, as are the ones on my CG (Brazil Model) which is a 52 registered bike.

The ones which arrived are these...

Nice and shiny, I'll give them that... However....

They are not height adjustable as in the pictures :S

Quick google look, the China model of the CG does not have adjustable suspension, but the Brazil model does!!  Now I did ask the seller prior to buying these IF they are compatible with the Brazil model, which they replied Yes

I asked:

They replied

So yeah... they aren't the ones as described in the picture (and yes, I did check my existing suspension against the picture in the listing, and they are the same exactly), the new ones are completely different.  I've not even offered them upto the bike to see if they fit either, as I'm not sure where to go with this...

Any advice??

Cheers  :(

Being compatible and like for like are different.
Sure, they might be compatible in that they fit (although not adjustable) but they're not a like for like replacement.
I think that's one area the seller might cause issue with, so have a better argument to throw back at them.

To do: Replace brake discs and pads; adjust already replaced shoes; check for leaks in oil cooler, cambelt area, crank seals, sump, dipstick; replace osf door; replace a tyre; clean, MOT.

They are not the items that you bid on so why should you go through the effort of making do. I would send them bad and get a refund, then spend your cash on the correct shocks.

So the height adjustment is that crude rotating collar at the base of the spring which sits aginst the roughly welded lump of metal?

It could be a simple mistake where they have picked the wrong ones up off the shelf.

Clearly not what advertised or even slightly-close to the picture in the listing that the seller 'cautions you' to check against your originals.

My 2d. worth:
Give them a chance to put it right for you by contacting them asking them to supply the item you actually bid-upon.......if the seller is not willing or able to do so; then politely request a full refund (including your return postage costs): it was their mistake after all!
Leave any formal eBay/paypal complaint until the seller has had at least a chance to put it right.

Please check image against your existing one or ask the question through eBay
Therefore you should receive what is shown in the picture IMO. As Debs quite rightly says, contact the seller first, then if non-cooperative you can go through the necessary channels.

Good luck  :y

Cheers guys! I've just sent this message to the seller, just trying to be polite really!  Checking first to see if they have sent the wrong item by mistake first, if no joy, I'll go down the other routes.

Hi

I received the shocks from you today thanks, however there is a small problem.  The ones I received don't appear to be the ones as pictured in your advert.

As you said about checking the ones on the bike against the ones in the picture for compatibility (which I did), the ones which arrived are completely different to the picture:

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p266/PaulW21781/Biking/My%20Bikes/CG125/38d000b1.jpg

As you can see they don't have the height adjustment screw.  I'm just wondering if the wrong ones have been sent by mistake?

Thanks

Paul

Also, I did take a screenshot of the advert page so you can see..  I've also printed off all the pages I've got screenshots off too.

See where it goes now I guess...

The rotating collar is Pre-Load adjustment, not height.  :y

Actually, thats a good point, well presented, most bikes its the pre load, not height you adjust
