F1 in the good old days
« on: 23 July 2009, 20:46:43 »

I am at work and I,m watching the BBC red button channel (301 freeview) which is showing highlights of Hungarian Grands prix from the 80,s/90,s.The racing is without doubt miles better than now, plenty of overtaking etc, sometimes I think I look back through rose tinted specs, but this has shown me that I dont.It really was that much better in the old days.

Indeed it was Albs, and in fact it was even better in the late 1960s and 1970s! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)  Money and power bureaucracy hadn't corrupted it all in those days.  ::) ::) ::) ;) ;)

yup, for the last 15yrs, they've all been to gay to overtake, Schumacher aside (love or hate him, he did have a desire to win), Senna/Prost/Mansell/Piquet was the last of the great racers

As Lizzie said F1 in the 60's/70's was nailbiting to watch, sure you'll find some on youtube etc.
Same as footy it's all become a tad corperate lately & in doing so has lost it's appeal to many. :(

Not sure its the corporatness, just that the 'championship' is more important than the 'race'.

Look how the idea that it was the maximum number of race wins that decides the championship was turned down.

In the absence of a lack of willingness to reduce downforce in the sport, ban pit stops, then the gay poofters will have to overtake if they want to win (not that any of the current lot have enough desire to win)

Pretty much sums it up for me. All the spirit has gone, it's got too techy & clinical. ::)
