Long story short.  Some years ago I bought an Ambulance, still had all the kit on..... 8-)
Found something connected to the blue light circuit, bolted on the front cross member. Curious  took it off and took it to Cleveland Ambulance Maintenance depot, it turns out that it was a radio transmitter, turns the lights green in favour of the Ambulance, or other emergency vehicles.  Only used on bigger junctions, but seemed like a good idea at the time.  And yes it did work on a Cortina  :D :D :D

Did a trial on those attached to emergency vehicles in West Sussex in the late 70's -- never knew how it turned out in the end  :-?
