Granny eats pedal power!
« on: 25 August 2009, 07:42:47 »

Well after selling the jag and the DVLA screwing up my omega paperwork I am back on 2 wheels, unfortunately as I dont have CAT A on my license (I can drive tanks but not a moped, long story) I am back on my trusty racing bike.

I was coming out of Tescos after picking up a few things for dinner and noticed a moped nearly pull out in front of me.  I carried on past up the hill out of the car park to hear the moped behind me start to stuggle so I looked around and even though I was in 1st gear she was dropping further and further back.  So once at the top of the hill I get to a nice long downhill section where I get upto a decent speed and then start to coast along.

Before i know it there she is again, overtaking me but she has maybe 1mph on me thats all, it was a purely comical moment Grandma pushing her trusty moped to the limit trying to overtake a pushbike!

So I obliged by dropping it a couple of gears getting into the tri-bar and winding it up leaving her for dust.  Even going up the next hill I didn't even hear her, she was too far behind shaking her fist  ;D ;D ;D

Well 2 days cycling and 2 days full of excitement.....

...some chopper knocked me off my bike this morning.  Nothing serious as I was only going 5mph and he was stationary and moving off.  The crux of it was I was in the cycle filter lane to turn right keeping an eye on the red light.  His car was stopped inside the cycle zone but it was red so I moved in to go across the front of his car but then he moved forward and knocked me off.  Apparently the amber I was looking at across the junction is not working so it goes from red straight to green.  He saw the red/amber nearest him (while my light is still completely red) and started to move.

He was protesting about lights and blind spots but he was totally in the wrong, thankfully no damage to the bike and minor road rash to my hand so I decided just to tell him to be more careful in the future and not take any further action.  I have told the council that their light caused a minor accident so we shall see how quick they change it.

Ironically I was cycling in with a mate who is RMP which caused the offending driver to change his attitude considerably when the warrant card was produced.  There was also another guy who stopped and told him he was completely in the wrong.  :y

Another day in the life of a cyclist!  ;)

Its the basic rule of traffic lights....amber means stop, not go.

In all fairness if my amber light had been working I would not have moved in front of him, hence my benevolence, but he should have not been in the cycle box nor should he have moved before it was green.

I have had worse, when back at uni in Sheffield I was deliberately rammed off the road while travelling at 30mph once.  Hit a parked car and flew over the top.  Took me a week to recover mentally.
