Project Elite - Gearbox prob fixed (almost!!!)
« on: 13 April 2007, 20:45:43 »

Ok, jacked it up, had a look under the car. Saw a big 4 pin plug disconnected ... big smile. Plug it in.. fire it up.. all working. Winter mode works, sports mode works.

Go for a quick run.. do a mile or so.. WOW.. drives really well through all the gears. Then suddenly... bleh... same problem. Into limp mode.

Drive it home - look underneith again. Connector is secure. Hmm. Take it out, Put it back, make sure it's home. Fire up again, and no sports/winter mode.

Take it off AGAIN .. look at it.. and in the plug there are 4 metal pins, that make contact with the plug on the box. One of them has broken off, hence not making a decent connection.

Guess I can nick the plug off the 2.5 and just join the wires. Bit concerned that there may still be some broken off pin in the other end.. but it's NOT accessible to look at (all done by feel!)

At least I'm somewhere close....

Good  to hear it was nothing serious. :)

To make access easier simply lower the gearbox...

Lowering the box wouldn't be too hard... however I doubt I'll need to...

I'm going to get Markie the electrician to put a new connector on for me  :y

Just make sure the pin isn't still in the socket.  Hopefully a mirror will do the trick.

So when am I going to see it?

Unfortunately not tomorrow... no MOT yet...

All being well, if work don't call me in (I'm on call)... then I should be Ok to pop up the road and lend a hand, as per PM... but I can never commit to it when on call :(

Damn - looking forwards to seeing bargain Elite! ;D :(

Anyway if you turn up so much the better - I'll have to get the scuttle off anyway.

Doing town this morning, got your mobile - I'll PM mine
